| Sapphire Fund Sets Check Presentation Date |
March 17, 2005 — Philadelphia, PA — Sapphire Fund, a nonprofit charitable organization supporting Philadelphia’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community, and those with HIV/AIDS, announced today that this year’s check presentation ceremony will take place on May 25 at 7:00 pm at the William Way Community Center.
“We are very pleased with the success of our fund raising efforts this year and with Blue Ball 2005. Sapphire Fund to date has netted over $65,000 and funds will be disbursed to our beneficiaries at the end of this fiscal year,” said Mark Blecher, President of Sapphire Fund. “We expect to receive more Blue Ball-related monies in the coming months, and we will complete the fundraising cycle with several additional events. The final amount that will be distributed will be determined as we get closer to the close of our fiscal year.”
Sapphire Fund’s board of directors has created a strategic plan that expands the agency’s sources of income, which already include individual giving, corporate sponsorship, and event revenue. The agency has begun operating on a year-round fundraising model, a practice that will allow it to increase both the size of its grants and its visibility within the community.
Since its inception, Sapphire Fund has distributed more then $120,000 to the LGBT community through its beneficiaries, including The William Way Community Center, MANNA, The Attic Youth Center, and Safe Guards, as well as supporting and promoting other worthy organizations such as the 2004 Philadelphia International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. The Fund’s key beneficiaries for 2005 are The William Way Community Center, The Center for Lesbian and Gay Civil Rights and St. Mary's Family Respite Center.
