| Sapphire Fund Grows Green for GLBT Community |
PHILADELPHIA — June 25, 2007 — Sapphire Fund, a nonprofit serving the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community (GLBT), as well as those living with HIV/AIDS, awarded more than $32,500 in grants at a ceremony held at the William Way Community Center on Wednesday, June 20.
The funds were raised through Sapphire Fund events, individual and corporate donations, and the challenge of a matching grant provided by an anonymous donor.
"We are absolutely thrilled by the success of this year's campaign," said Wayne Hamilton, president of the Sapphire Fund. "The support shown by individuals and the corporate community enable Sapphire and our beneficiaries to continue their great work for the GLBT community."
The following organizations received $10,000 each: The Linda Creed Breast Cancer Foundation, William Way Community Center and AIDS Law Project of PA. Sapphire Fund also provided $2,500 to Philadelphia Family Pride, an organization that provides assistance and advocacy for GLBT-headed families in the Greater Philadelphia region.
