| Sapphire Fund Announces 2006 Beneficiaries |
August 31, 2005 — PHILADELPHIA— The Sapphire Fund, a nonprofit charitable organization supporting Philadelphia's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community, announced today that it has selected beneficiaries for its 2006 funding cycle. They are: William Way Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center; The Attic Youth Center; and Mazzoni Center.
"Our 2006 beneficiaries have a proven track record of providing health and social services, support groups, creative outlets and networking opportunities to the GLBT and HIV/AIDS community," said Brad Richards, president of Sapphire Fund’s board of directors. "We are excited to continue our philanthropic tradition with these worthy organizations."
Since its inception as Blue Ball sixteen years ago, and over the past three years in its current incarnation as Sapphire Fund, the organization has distributed more than $1.5 million to the GLBT and HIV/AIDS community through its beneficiaries. It has also provided financial and promotional support for organizations and events such as the 2004 Philadelphia International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, HRC Constitutionally Speaking panel discussion, and Delaware Valley Legacy Fund’s Will Power Project.
