| Sapphire Fund Announces 2005 Beneficiaries |
July 29, 2004 — Philadelphia, PA — Sapphire Fund proudly announces the beneficiaries of its 2005 fundraising events intended to support the advancement of the GLBT community in the Philadelphia region. They are The William Way Community Center, The Center for Lesbian and Gay Civil Rights and The St. Mary's Family Respite Center.
"We are excited and proud to support the work of these three very worthy organizations in Philadelphia," says Mark Blecher, Chair of the Sapphire Fund. "Sapphire Fund is committed to supporting the advancement of the LGBT community through the work of grassroots organizations that engage in advocacy, the arts, and HIV/AIDS research, education, prevention and treatment. We feel that these three organizations have a solid track record for providing important services to our growing community."
The William Way Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center was established in 1996 to serve the LGBT community through various programs and opportunities in the Philadelphia area. The Center sponsors important programs like Alcoholics Anonymous, enrichment courses, discussion groups, social events and educational seminars. This is the 3rd consecutive year that the Sapphire Fund has chosen the Center as a beneficiary.
The Center for Lesbian and Gay Civil Rights was founded in 1996 by activists and attorneys who identified an unmet need for legal services and advocacy in the LGBT community. The Center promotes equality through direct legal services, education and policy reform.
St. Mary's Family Respite Center is a non-sectarian, non-profit social service agency established in 1992. The Center provides child care services to children and families living with HIV/AIDS. Services include meals and transportation, supply donations for infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers, and educational programs designed to facilitate cognitive, physical, emotional and social development.
